9. Tributes to an Unknown God

Over the past two years, my wife and I have spent a week in March, at friends who spend a month or so on the island of Sanibel, off the west coast of Florida. During those times, I often spent hours wandering up and down the beach, and as I usually do, taking pictures of what I saw.

One classification of images I saw, are creations in the sand. These images, taking anywhere from 15 minutes to many hours to create, are temporary creations that have emerged from the human psyche. I refer to them as tributes to an unknown God!

Why do people invest so much time and energy on creating an image that will last only until the next tide has erased all signs of it?

Some are images that are easily recognized, others are not.

Imagine being whisked away from your normal life and deposited on a deserted island. You start walking along the beach and you begin to see these images.....

Imagine a probe from outer space reaching earth to get a sample so they (alien) could see what inhabited the earth. What they see are these images......

Earth has strange looking inhabitants,

and they do not seem to move around much.

Creativity takes many forms, this is one of them. Beautiful and intriguing in their own way.
